Montrose Shotokan Karate is an independent, non-profit making, family orientated club. Most adult members train with their young relations. We train in Montrose Sport Centre on Mondays and Thursdays from 7pm –9pm. We have three qualified instructors, Chief Instructor 3rd Dan and level 2 coach, a female 3rd Dan, level 2 coach and is also the Child Protection Officer for the club. Our other assistant instructor is a 2nd Dan, level 1 coach. Within our club we also have some very experienced 2nd Dan grades who offer support and commitment to the club by offering tuition and advice to other club members We have achieved Gold in the Angus Club Excellence Award, run in conjunction with Angus Council and Angus Sports Council to whom we are affiliated. Angus Sports Council awarded the chief instructor as "Coach of the year 2005".
At Montrose Shotokan Karate we conduct our own gradings up to 1st kyu in preparation to sit a Dan Grade. Montrose Shotokan are honoured to have Iain Abernethy as their Dan Grading Officer. Throughout our training calendar we hold various courses covering many different aspects of karate.
At Montrose Shotokan we pride ourselves in being able to offer our members a wider spectrum of Martial Arts whilst still retaining our ethos of teaching “Traditional Karate.” This is a dying art and only true Karateka can keep the legend alive.
THERE IN LIES IT’S BEAUTY.
